With a mixed group of abilities we had planned to visit Vobster Quay, which caters for all experience levels, whether you’re looking for a deep dive (to even complete a PADI Advanced Open water course, like us) or just a shallow dive to keep your skills up together and fresh in your mind, whilst looking at the local attractions.

It was surprising to see just how much they had changed in such a short period. Starting with the filling station, all tanks are now filled independently with a smart system in place to prevent any of them being over filled and a simple trigger switch (something that any gas blender would appreciate especially by the end of the day!). There were also about half a dozen harlequins outside the shop (no not a bunch of divers or even the staff :o) ) which are just over two metres high and Vobster’s latest fibreglass attractions. Apparently there were some already in the water (not that we saw them) but they’re having problems keeping them up right. Personally I think they’re perfectly alright in the water and only fall over when Tim (the site manager) goes in to the water to inspect them :o).

The best thing that they’ve improved has to be the entrance with two ticket booths, this previously being one of the worst thing about Vobster Quay. Now there are two lanes and they’ve even got a card scanning system for their members, allowing everybody in quicker. All in all, their hard work was beginning to show through in a very positive light, well done guys!
As for us diving there, it was great to see a good group of friends, all enjoying the diving and the lovely sunshine. We split into a couple of groups and I believe that we covered most of the dive sites :o) from Pete’s caravan of love, 42ft yacht, wheel house, crushing works, aeroplane, even the old quarry truck on the far side. Finally the day ended on a high with about half the group; all talking about their up and coming holidays (we did offer our personal diving services, even if this meant we had to travel to Egypt, Oz and Indonesia :o). We hope you all have a great time and look forward to jumping back in together soon.
