With recent events preventing me from getting in the water, I was beginning to go cold turkey but finally, with everything in place, it was time to get back in. I’ve got to say that I was really looking forward to a midweek dive (sometimes the swimming pool just isn’t enough). However, the excitement was slightly reduced whilst scrapping the ice from the van’s windscreen! Once back inside the van and beginning to warm up, we all began to chat and were surprised that for some of us; our last dive was up at Scapa Flow at the beginning of October (what a great holiday!!).
Having made our way through the fog, we arrived at Vobster Quay, the water was very calm with amazing visibility from the surface, probably the best I’ve ever seen. However, with the fog still lingering, we couldn’t see the far side of the quarry!

After signing in and catching up with the friendly staff, time to kit up and jump in. We decided to dive the harlequin and hug the wall around to the crushing works but, as we got down onto it, we noticed a new attraction! Yes, the visibility was that good. It turned out to be an APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) which the army had just placed there yesterday afternoon. Dive Right were the first divers there (as always!). As we continued our planned dive, we were both surprised at how warm we felt even after 30mins swimming around. Unfortunately this wasn’t to last due to a large cold trickle of water in one of the dry suits!! Unfortunately this left one of us buddy less for dive 2 which had to be called off – oh well, there's always next week!
Now we’re looking forward to jumping in on the 27th December to try out all those new diving toys that Santa brings us :) For those of you that are just too far away from us to join in; we wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the very best for the year ahead!!
